Focus on Whole Child Education
In order to focus on Whole Child education, BRIDGES Charter School will nurture a balanced approach to academic, social and emotional student success.
- It will include a nutritional curricular component
- It will incorporate a plan to cultivate a school garden, which will provide a hands-on environment for demonstrating life sciences while simultaneously allowing children to plant and grow organic produce for their own lunches
- It will establish more time for an independent work period so students can complete much of their homework on site, in order to free their evenings for quality time with their families and extracurricular community activities
- It will ensure that independent (home)work at BRIDGES Charter School will not be assigned based on minutes, but based on relevance
- It will incorporate classroom Circle Time on a daily basis, at every grade level, to allow for reflection and problem-solving, to build students’ listening and communication skills, and to build respect and understanding amongst the group
- It will incorporate conflict-resolution and compassionate communication techniques in the daily language used on campus
- It will include a strong emphasis in public-speaking, presentation and leadership skills
