New charter school names director

Bridges K-8 Charter School has named Hilda Salas, a 15-year Oxnard Union High veteran and a Thousand Oaks resident, as the school director.

Hilda SalasHilda Salas The school is scheduled to open in August on the Glenwood Elementary campus.

Salas will leave her post as district psychologist in the Oxnard Union High School District. 

The Bridges search committee say they selected Salas from the pool of applicants because she is a respected leader in Ventura County education and a “perfect match” for the school’s whole child educational philosophy.

The committee felt Salas’ experience as a school psychologist qualified her to oversee the childcentered learning environment. 

In addition, Salas is an effective communicator with biliteracy and bicultural proficiencies.

Salas has master’s degrees in educational leadership and school psychology as well as an administrative services credential.

Bridges school is a K-8 learning community of families and educators. School officials say they use innovative teaching methods and experiential learning to educate children in a public school environment with a focus on ecological and social responsibility.
