If you would like to attend the Public Random Drawing (PRD or lottery), please RSVP at (805) 895-5120 or at info@BRIDGEScharter.org so that we can plan accordingly.  Please note that families need not be physically present at the PRD in order to be included in the drawing. No placements will be confirmed at the PRD; applicants will be notified of their admissions status by telephone.

Public Random Drawing Procedure

The Public Random Drawing (PRD) is designed to ensure transparency and has to be legally compliant.  We ask your help in facilitating this by refraining from discussion and/or questions until after the PRD has been concluded.  Families need not be physically present at the PRD in order to be included in the drawing.

Prior to the event, the names of all BRIDGES applicants participating in the PRD will be recorded onto the school's Master Application List. Each family/last name will then be assigned a unique Family Identification Number ("FIN"). Consequently, every child within one family will have the same FIN designation. To maintain confidentiality, no family names will be announced at the PRD, only Family Identification Numbers.

  • If you would like to know your Family Identification Number (FIN) please email: info@BRIDGEScharter.org prior to the PRD. You can also request your FIN in person at the PRD, but you will need to show appropriate identification to receive it.

Family Identification Numbers will be printed on tickets and placed into a tumbler.  By law, families residing in CVUSD must be given higher weighting in the PRD, therefore families residing in CVUSD will have 2 tickets in the tumbler (whether with one child or multiple children applying to the school), and families residing outside the CVUSD boundaries will have one ticket in the tumbler.

Tickets will be scrambled, then drawn one at a time from the tumbler.  Each ticket's corresponding FIN will be assigned a Lottery Draw Number ("LDN") according to the order in which the FIN ticket is pulled. For families residing in CVUSD, when the second LDN is pulled, it will be recorded but disregarded. Because all siblings are represented on the same ticket, each child in a family will receive the same LDN.

The 4-step process to record the LDN to its corresponding FIN is as follows:

1) After each FIN ticket is drawn, the Family Identification Number will be read aloud.

2) A Lottery Draw Number will be assigned to each pulled FIN ticket, in numerical order.  Each LDN will be announced and checked off on a Master Lottery Draw Number list.

3) Each LDN will be recorded on a hardcopy form of the Master Applicant list and directly onto the ticket, while the corresponding FIN is simultaneously recorded on the Master Lottery Draw Number list as a triple check.

4) The recorder of the Master Applicant list will verbally confirm the LDN and FIN.

The PRD will conclude when the last ticket has been drawn. Thus, the Family Identification Number of each family residing in CVUSD will correspond to two (2) LDNs (the second drawn of which will be discarded) and the FIN of each family not residing in CVUSD will correspond to one (1) LDN.

One BRIDGES Charter School Board Member will be appointed to act as PRD Supervisor and will have the responsibility to decide the resolution of any unforseen issues which may arise during the course of the PRD and which have not been anticipated by school policy and procedures. The decision of said Supervisor will be considered final.

Within one week of the PRD, the school Directors will organize applicants into grade-level lists and then into tentative class configurations. Once this has been accomplished, the school Directors will begin to notify Parents/Guardian(s) of their child(ren)'s admission status by phone.

Once capacity is reached in each grade level, the remaining Lottery Draw Applicants will be placed on the Wait List in the order in which they were drawn in the PRD.
