New Charter School Opens in Thousand Oaks

A new Thousand Oaks charter school opened Tuesday, welcoming 215 students in grades K-7.

Bridges Charter School is sharing the Glenwood School campus on Windsor Drive, using several portable and permanent classrooms provided by the Conejo Valley Unified School District.

In an effort to share resources and offer more services, two Ventura County charter schools will join this year to provide a home-school program for local families.

The Ventura Charter School of Arts and Global Education and the BRIDGES Charter School in Thousand Oaks plan to share staff and resources for a program that will include enrichment classes and online services.

Bridges K-8 Charter School has named Hilda Salas, a 15-year Oxnard Union High veteran and a Thousand Oaks resident, as the school director.

A new Thousand Oaks charter school will share a campus with Glenwood School in the Conejo Valley Unified School District this fall.

At a Tuesday night board meeting, Conejo Valley trustees decided to place Bridges Charter School on the K-5 campus of about 380 students, despite objections from Glenwood parents.
