BRIDGES Charter School is a California Non-Profit, Public Benefit Corporation governed by a board of directors that is comprised of  parents  who serve voluntarily for one or two-year terms.

 

Kathy Jonokuchi D.V.M. - Board President DrKjono@gmail.com

Dr. Jonokuchi holds a BS in Zoology and Veterinary Science and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from UC Davis. Kathy iskathy head shot also a business owner.  In 1990, she co-founded Calabasas Animal Clinic. She served as Secretary on the SCOPE Board for the Open Classroom Magnet. Currently, she is involved with presenting lesson plans for life science to upper elementary grade students. Dr. Jonokuchi and her husband are both natives of Los Angeles and have been living in the Conejo Valley since 1993. Her son is a 5th grader and will be part of the BRIDGES Pioneers group for middle school. Her daughter is a freshman at Santa Susana High School, Magnet for Arts, Academics and Technology. Since their birth, she has developed a special interest in child development and the neuroscience of learning.

Randy Witt is a 14 year resident of the Conejo Valley.   He has served extensively with the both the Triunfo YMCA and the Westlake North (North Ranch) Homeowner's Association.   He has owned businesses in the medical diagnostic and real estate field.    Randy is married to Rose Ann (who was in charge of community outreach with the Open Classroom program) and has two children.   His daughter, Jordanna, spent 7 years in the Open Classroom Program and is currently at Colina.    His son is a 4th grader and looks forward to spending the rest of his elementary and all of his middle school years at BRIDGES.

 

Jim Floyd - Secretaryfloyd head shot

Jim attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.  Jim brings his experience as an Advertising Account Executive at Saatchi & Saatchi, his membership on two HOA Boards of Directors, and his experience as a Certified Real Estate Property Manager to the BRIDGES board.

Jim's family have been Conejo Valley residents since 1996.  His children have attended both the neighborhood school and a magnet school. As an active member of the Horizon Hills Parenting Program for six years, Jim was active in raising funds for the new playground, and became educated in child development by attending classes, seminars and speaking engagements.

 

Melissa Swanson - Treasurermelissa lighter

Ms. Swanson is a CPA with extensive experience in both public accounting and private industry.  Her experience includes 4 years as a partner at a local CPA firm, where she managed audits and prepared financial statements for both profit and non-profit businesses. She also prepared federal and state income tax returns for businesses and individuals.

In 2000, she joined a local Boys and Girls Club as Director of Finance.  She oversaw all financial activities of the organization, including revenue collection, accounts payable, payroll, and grant and financial reporting.  Eventually, Ms. Swanson was on the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Club, serving on the finance committee.

As the current human resources manager at a travel company, Ms. Swanson's duties include, employee benefits and payroll for the California employees.
 
Melissa has participated in PTA and PFA organizations at her children's schools and she is excited to be participating in the formation of BRIDGES Charter School knowing that its opening will allow more children to have the opportunity to experience a whole-child philosophy of teaching.

 

John Saunders - Parlimentarianjohn head shot

John Saunders is a 16 year resident of Thousand Oaks.  John and his wife, Sue have five adult children that all graduated from Thousand Oaks High School.  Their granddaughter is entering kindergarten in the fall of 2010.  John recently retired from the Oxnard Union High School District after serving  21 years as a site and district administrator.   John served in the positions of a school dean, assistant principal, principal and OUHSD Director of Special Education.  Prior to joining the OUHSD, John taught for 15 years in the Alhambra School District at the secondary level.

John brings to the Board, a breadth of experience with educational policies, procedures and legal challenges.
