A new Thousand Oaks charter school will share a campus with Glenwood School in the Conejo Valley Unified School District this fall.
At a Tuesday night board meeting, Conejo Valley trustees decided to place Bridges Charter School on the K-5 campus of about 380 students, despite objections from Glenwood parents.
Calling Glenwood “the best option of probably not really great options,” Superintendent Mario Contini recommended the move.
“Overall, even though there will be numerous issues and problems there as well, it seems that is the best site for resolving the problems,” Contini said. Glenwood offers room to expand, a multi-purpose room, space for parking and other benefits, he said.
The board voted 4-1 for the location. Trustee Mike Dunn dissented, saying that feedback he received from local community members was overwhelmingly in support of placing the charter at the University campus, a former elementary school where the district is developing an early childhood education center.
