Protocol for Addressing Concerns at Bridges
Step 1: If at all possible, encourage your child to speak to his/her teacher about the concern, at Bridges we are focused on helping students become advocates for themselves and their classmates, and this is often the best first step.

Step 2: Make an appointment to speak with your child's teacher. Teachers have the most insights into your child's day to day experiences and will more than likely be able to work with you to address your concern. If you come to the office with a classroom related concern, we will more than likely encourage you to set-up an appointment with your child's teacher.

Step 3: If the issue is unresolved, we encourage you to follow up again with your child's teacher to check-in, and you can loop in Ms. Cindy or Dr. Kelly if you feel the issue is unresolved.

Step 4: Ms. Cindy and Dr. Kelly are able to resolve almost every issue that comes before us; however, after going through these first steps, and you still feel your issue is unresolved, we do have a formal complaint process that can be addressed at the local level with the Bridges Board of Directors.

Step 5: All issues are resolved on-site since we are our own District and have our own Board of Directors. If your issue is unresolved after going through these steps listed above, the Bridges Board of Directors will hear, respond to, and make a final decisions regarding your formal complaint. Bridges Public Board Meetings
The Bridges Board of Directors meets at least once per month. All of these meetings are open to the public and they are great opportunities for you to learn more about the inner workings of our school and to learn more about how our policies and procedures are created. Public comments are welcomed at the beginning of each board meeting. Our next Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 17th at 6:15 pm.

Final Mandatory Volunteer Meeting
Thank you for your eager participation in our volunteer trainings offered by Shoshana Wheeler! We are hearing such great feedback from parents who have attended, and we are offering one final opportunity for you to participate in a mandatory volunteer orientation. The final opportunity is this Thursday, September 13th from 4:30-5:30pm in the MPR. This will be right before our Back to School Night. If you have not already attended a mandatory training, please plan to attend this Thursday.

Volunteer Protocols
For most classrooms, parent volunteering begins next week, September 17th! As parent volunteers, please be aware that there may be times in the classroom when you have access to information that is deemed confidential. We will be sending home a confidentiality agreement for you to review and sign.  Most importantly, please note that it is illegal to record students in the classroom; you should not discuss student behavior or academic status with other parents or with the teacher, and if you notice behavioral problems, please alert a teacher or another appropriate Bridges employee. Thank you for your eager participation! We could not be as vibrant a community without your support!

Teacher Learning Committees
Charter schools were developed to be sites where research on best practices for teaching and learning takes place. At Bridges, we believe in hiring teachers who will be teacher leaders who will shape the future of Education. We recognize that collaboration is essential to this process. On Fridays, when your children are released early from school, our amazing teachers have the opportunity to collaborate with each other. Most of this time is spent on grade level teams, however, once a month we are meeting on specialized learning committees.

Last week, we formed teacher learning committees that your children's teachers are interested in researching for the remainder of the school year. These committees will be engaged in ongoing research, observation, and reflection with each other as they try out new practices in order to inform future curriculum adoptions and the direction of our Charter. The committees that our teachers elected to form are: Math, Project Based Learning, and 21st Century Learning and Digital Citizenship. We will be reporting out our findings to our wider community later as we have more information to share.

Welcome Back Luau
Thank you for all who participated in our Welcome Back Luau! Our students had a fun morning engaging in themed activities and enjoying snacks. We are grateful to our student council teachers who organized the event and our middle school students for leading many of the activities and games. It was a great way to kick off the start to our 2018-2019 school year!

Back to School Night
Don't forget to join us for our annual Back to School Night where you will have the opportunity to go to your child's classroom to learn more about their curriculum! The event will be from 5:30-6:30pm this Thursday, September 13th. Please meet us in the lunch area by the lockers for a welcome before we break out into classrooms.

Family Donation Program
Our PAC funds so many opportunities for our students here at Bridges. Our PAC funds many of the classroom purchases teachers make, they fund our Naturalist program, part of our Garden program, they help fund field trips, and our Makerspace. They work very hard to bring enriching experiences to our school, and their main fundraising happens through our Family Donation program. Their goal is for every family to participate! You can leave your donation in the box in the front office.
