Director's Note, January 7th: Acorn Story, Spelling Bee, Early Release Days, Parenting Classes, and More!

Bridges Students in the News
Many of you probably saw the recent Acorn article about our students spreading joy with poppy seeds in our community!

Our amazing naturalist teachers, John and Ellen, spent time with most of our students discussing ways to give back to our community and heal from the recent tragedy.

Under John and Ellen’s guidance, Bridges students made more than a thousand packets of poppy seeds which they spread around our school and our community with the goal of spreading joy. You can still pick up a packet of your own in the front office. Read the story here:

Early Release Next Week
Some of you may not have noticed that we have two early release days next week, Tuesday, January 15th and Wednesday, January 16th. Students will be released at 12:20. These early release days were calendared for our teaches to have extra time to collaborate, norm student assessments, and co-plan.

Though we recognize that this places an added inconvenience on working parents, having regular teacher collaboration time is essential for student learning and success! Our after school Extensions program will be open on these days, but you will need to register your child in advance.

Spelling Bee at Bridges Charter School
Before break, Bridges students had the opportunity to sign up to participate in our school spelling bee which will take place in the coming weeks. Classroom spelling bees will be held the week of January 21st. Two students from each grade level will go on to participate in our school-wide spelling bee on Thursday, January 31st at 3pm in the MPR. The winner of our school spelling bee will compete against other students in the county! Thanks to Kindergarten teacher, Ms. Tina, and our Librarian Ms. Rebekah for coordinating the spelling bee!

We are also seeking parent volunteers who can assist with the spelling bee! Contact Ms. Rebekah if you wish to help:

Parent Education Series with Shoshana Wheeler
By popular demand, Parenting and Nonviolent Communication Expert, Shoshana Wheeler is coming back to Bridges to lead a donation-based Parenting Education Series that is open to the whole community!

The discussions will run from 6:30-8pm in our MPR on the following dates:

January 24th: Parenting Mindset
February 21st: Family Legacy
March 21st: Brain Development
April 25th: Connecting Communication
May 23rd: Anger
May 30th: Setting Limits

Come to one of the classes, or come to all, and please invite your friends and spread the word to local parents who may be interested.

Enrollment and Parent Info Nights
Do you have friends who may be interested in learning more about Bridges? Please have them join us in an upcoming Parent Information Night starting next week! We’ll talk about theories that guide our pedagogy, and parents will have the opportunity to learn about our kindergarten program, our new approaches to teaching math, our social emotional learning curriculum, and our emphasis on inquiry across the curriculum.

We will have three information nights for K-5 students and one information night for middle school. Help us spread the word, and if you would like to learn more about what learning looks like at Bridges beyond your child’s current grade, feel free to RSVP!
