California Dashboard and School Accountability Measures
The state of California has a new method for measuring learning, displaying school data, and holding schools accountable that is more parent friendly. If you haven’t explored the Dashboard, please check it out:

The Dashboard shows how our students performs in categories of English/Language Arts and  Math and you can view school culture reports having to do with Chronic Absenteeism, and Suspension Rates. You can also break down the data in subgroups by student population.

In an upcoming Coffee Chat we will share more about this data and how we are using it to improve student learning and our school culture!

Attendance is vital for student learning. As such, we maintain policies for attendance that are aligned with state law. Please remember that students are not to miss school for any reason other than the following:

  • Illness of a student (not a parent or a sibling)
  • Quarantine under a city official’s order
  • A doctor, dental, or optometry appointment
  • Death of an immediate family member
  • Funeral service and/or bereavement so long as the absence is not more than one day if the service takes place in California, or more than three days if the services is outside California.
  • Appearance in court
  • Observance of a religious holiday
  • Attendance at naturalization ceremony

All other circumstances are considered unexcused by the Education Code of the State of California. Further, should a student absences be deemed excessive per our board policies, parents will receive notification from our Attendance Review Board and students could be asked to return to their home school.
